Writing Advice from Andrew Smith

Matthew Weaver asked Andrew Smith if he had any advice for me. OK, not me personally, but for aspiring writers.

Smith says we should disconnect from our gadgets and get outside. (I’m paraphrasing a little.)

I thought his response was different from what most authors say.
Have you heard this before?
Have/will you try it?

I thought I was supposed to get off of Twitter and write.

I’m thinking, Whoa, OK! Then I read further, and I like this guy even more.

Smith says, “Get out of your house and bump into stuff…I was fortunate that I was the first-born child of an immigrant here in America, and so I’ve been all over the world and I’ve been in some pretty strange situations. Teens [but he’s talking to me, too] need to go out and see things that are real, bump into things, make mistakes, and grow from their experiences, positive and negative.”
