I’m a parent, I can’t write… part 2

Now that we’ve made this decision to fully commit to writing, excuses keep popping into our heads.

Here’s one of my favorites: I’m a single mom; I don’t have time to write

The truth is, I do have time to write. Here’s what I do, maybe something will give you ideas about how to snatch a minute for writing here or there.

1. Do the math. I usually forget the multiplication tables from time to time, but I do take out my calendar and determine how much time I need to meet self-imposed or publisher imposed deadlines.  This helps me manage the time I do have wisely.

 2. Join them. When my son was little, he’d “write” with me. He’d have his pad and pen and I’d have mine. When he got older after an afterschool snack, he’d be engrossed in his homework, and I’d be engrossed in mine. When he was done, I was done, mid-sentence if need be because he’d want to watch TV, talk, or get a ride to the gym.
But what do you do? We only have 24 hours.
