Today’s guest post is by my son, Z, of Z’s Corner. Enjoy!

Ok, so I’m only writing about this because my mom really wanted me to tell you guys.
I didn’t really care to write about it, but I guess I’m going to even if I don’t want to,ha ha. . .
Stumbling Upon a Topic
So, I was sitting in class, and the teacher was saying topics, and if you wanted the topic, you had to raise your hand.
How I Chose Cloning for My Topic for a Research Paper (Oh, my goodness! This is the longest title of a paragraph ever J) by Z

Stumbling Upon a Topic
So, I was sitting in class, and the teacher was saying topics, and if you wanted the topic, you had to raise your hand.
Everyone took the
easy topics like abortion and stuff, and I thought, Hey, cloning might be something interesting.
Boy, was I wrong.
Cloning was a
boring topic, but I got the job done, reluctantly.
How Did I Get the
Job Done?
Well, first I
Googled cloning because I only vaguely knew what it was.
I found this whole
huge essay by someone at Stanford, and it explained everything.
Basically, I
paraphrased most of it and cited it because the assignment was to explain what
we picked as a source.
This was a really
boring and strenuous paper to write, and
that’s basically
how I wrote it.
Later, folks.
It's interesting that you offered that the rest of the class took the easy subjects. Was it that from your perspective there appeared to be plenty of source material?
ReplyDeleteWas part of your assignment to offer an opinion on the subject matter? If so, did you offer an opinion from the analysis of the source or your own? Thanks!
Hi,
DeleteThere wasn't much source material in my opinion, because there are less opinions and views from religious standpoints on cloning and whether or not it’s morally acceptable according to their beliefs. There's not a unified stance for or against cloning for most religions. The assignment was to find out what's the stance in the Catholic religion and there really is none, I'm assuming because cloning is so new and hip and [in my opinion] the Catholic religion isn't always hip. Certain things that you might have to do to execute cloning go against the religion and I talked about that. You have to destroy embryos or something like that-- but anything to do with an unborn baby that's negative-- the Catholic religion is going to be against it.
Also, no, my opinion was not supposed to be a part of the assignment. The only assignment was to give the facts on what it [in this case cloning] is, what the Catholic religion thinks of it, and some pros and cons. If I were to give an opinion on cloning, I would say that I'm not for or against it. To me, it just depends on what the purpose of the procedure is. I don't think it's a bad practice, but it could be if the technology and ability was placed in the wrong hands. We all know there are some crazy people out there who use the technologies and advances we have now in the wrong ways. Thank you for the comment and I hope the above answers your questions.

Hi, I have passed this question on to Z. I will post his reply when it is available. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the amplification. I can see where it would be challenging to write about a subject if you are agnostic about it. Would you take the same approach if provided a subject that was contrary to Catholic dogma? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi, I would probably take the same approach. I'm not exactly sure though. It all depends on what the subject was. If it was something that I actually knew something about without having to Google it, then I’d take a different approach and I’d feel a lot more comfortable writing about it. I didn't really feel comfortable, if you will, about writing this paper. I didn't feel like everything clicked the way I wanted it to. If there was a topic I knew something about, I’d write more passionately and I would have gotten a better grade because my passion along with the quality of my writing is what pushes me over the top to get better grades. Teachers like to see their students being enthusiastic about whatever their assignment is and I normally would, but I just didn't feel it on this one.
