Walter Dean Myers

It's kind of funny how even well known/read writers can appear anonymous.

For example, if we saw Nicholas Sparks, Stephenie Meyer, or Walter Dean Myers walking down the street would we recognize them?

I was sitting in a shuttle bus in Chicago during the NCTE conference and spotted Walter Dean Myers walking down the street.

No one on the bus said a word about Myers walking down the street. Perhaps they didn’t see him.

Here, I am sitting in the bus when I decide that I should try to take his picture to show my son.

Here, I am trying again and the bus is moving!

Here, the bus has rounded the corner and my finger slips on the shutter, taking yet another bad picture.

Two days after the bus fiasco, I hear Myers speak.

How is anything in this post helping us to become better writers, you might ask.

It isn't, I'd have to reply.


I just thought it would be fun to look at Myers and think about how writers can be interesting subjects.


Maybe I should write about him some day.
