Assembly on American Literature

I was fortunate enough to chair a session at NCTE for the Assembly on American Literature called “The American Short Story: Past and Present.”

I sat in on two tables, one was led by a colleague, let's call her M, who talked about the life and work of Katherine Anne Porter and Dorothy Parker.

On M's handout, I noticed two quotes I want to remember:

“I hate writing, I love having written.” ~~ Dorothy Parker

“Most people won't realize that writing is a craft. You have to take your apprenticeship in it like anything else.” ~~ Katherine Anne Porter

  2. Thanks for reading my blog, BH. AAL submitted a proposal to NCTE about teaching drama. If accepted, we’ll present in Las Vegas. I’ll keep you posted. -Kaa
